ASBM organizes National HR Conclave in Bhubaneswar

HR conclaveBhubaneswar, Oct 8: Asian School of Business Management (ASBM), Bhubaneswar organized the 23rd National Management Colloquium (NMC) – HR on September 26 here in its premises. The Colloquium was organized on the theme ‘Value HR: Concept to Practice’ with sub-themes ‘Employee Acquisition & Retention’ and ‘Employee Engagement.’

This 23rd National Management Colloquium was inaugurated by Mr. Jyoti Ghosh, MD, State Bank of Bikaner & Jaipur, the Chief Guest on the occasion, by lighting the ‘lamp of wisdom’. In his speech, he said, “every employee should ask himself whether he is in right profession”. Then he elaborated on the kind of HR practices public sector banks are undertaking now. He further said, “HR practices should visualize the challenges and problems in the years to come and should manage changes effectively with their independent thinking.

Prof. (Dr.) Biswajeet Pattanayak, Director ASBM and Chairman of the colloquium said while introducing the theme that there is a huge gap between concept and practice. We all speak very high on commitment and loyality but pity is that HR personnel are the first person to leave the organization. He further explained various factors of leaving job like lack of interest, disliking the boss, lack of challenge in job, lack of progress etc. He then explained how HR can deliver value and develop HR professionals in this context. He also talked about difficulty in managing talent in the uncertain business environment and creating leaders in business innovations.

Shri P. C. Panigrahi, Director – Personnel, MCL, graced the occasion as Guest of Eminence. In his deliberation, he emphasized on human factors to value human resources. He emphasized how public sector undertakings have given enough contribution on nation building.

Shri Shriram Darbha, Head – Human Recourses, BSE Ltd., the Key Note Speaker of the event, talked about the Indian Perspective of HR management. He explained how to maintain professional life sprit, professional life balance, self actualization, core concept of talent and above all, the power of will, the power of knowledge and power of action. He further discussed the features of our future time.

There were two technical Sessions on the Sub themes ‘Employee Acquisition & Retention” and “Employee Engagement”.  The speakers in the technical sessions were Shri M. Ramkrishna, Chairperson, Managing Director, ZCS Consulting Ltd, Shri Deepak Gupta, Group Head – HR, Karvy, Shri Suvendu Das President – HR, OSL Group, Shri Dillip Mohanty, President – HR, Jayaswal Neco Industries Ltd, Shri Venkatesh Palabatia, Chief Human Resource Officer, Hyderabad International Airports, GMR Group, and Shri A. N. Verma, General Manager – HR, NTPC who debated and oriented the students with a lot of useful information on Human Resource management. The ASBM Journal of Management was released in this colloquium.

The guests were introduced by Prof. Phalgu Niranjana, Coordinator, NMC HR and vote of thanks was proposed by Shri M. Ramakrishna, Managing Director, ZCS Consulting Ltd. The Colloquium was sponsored by IDCO and OPGC and it was organized in collaboration with ZCS Consulting Limited. The Colloquium was attended by academicians, research scholars, corporate executives and students in large numbers, Prof. Kalyan S Ray, The Dean of ASBM, faculty, staff members and students.
