Committee formed for Odisha Legislative Council

Odisha AssemblyThe Odisha Government has formed a five-member committee to study the formation and functioning of the proposed Legislative Council in Odisha. BJD will have three MLAs in the committee, while Congress and BJP will have one member each.

Nrusingha Sahoo (BJD-Parjanga), Pramilla Mallick (BJD-Binjharpur), Manohar Randhari (BJD-Nabarangpur), Bhujbal Majhi (Congress-Dabugam) and Nitesh Gangdeb (BJP-Deogarh) will be the five members in the committee. They will visit Maharashtra and Karnataka later this month to study the functioning of the Legislative Councils in those states.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bikram Keshari Arukh has announced the formation of the committee, saying the government is serious about forming the Legislative Council and will expedite the process. As per the rules, Odisha can have 49 members in the proposed Legislative Council, who will have a six-year fix term.
