Govt admits 26 deaths; says 57 lakh people affected by Cyclone Titli

ONI Bureau:  The State Government on Tuesday confirmed the death toll due to the severe cyclonic storm Titli to 26 from earlier 18 on Monday.

While total 18 deaths were confirmed in Gajapati district, in other districts, 3 people died in Ganjam while 1 each in Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Nayagarh, Angul and Cuttack mainly due to wall collapse, drowning and tree falling.

The State Govt also revealed that about 57 lakh people of 16 districts have been affected while 1, 48,000 hectares of paddy crops and 65,000 hectares of non-paddy crops have been damaged in the severe cyclone. However 3.6 lakh evacuated & shifted to safer places.

Road connectivity in Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada & Kandhamal severely disrupted, informed SRC Bishnupada Sethi at a presser in Bhubaneswar today.
