Music Legend Prafulla Kar receives ‘Padma Shri’

The 76-year-old Odia Music Legend Dr. Prafulla Kar (D.Lit) was conferred with ‘Padma Shri’ Award by President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan today. Born on February 16, 1939, Prafulla Kar remains a household name in Odisha. His songs still touch the heart of millions and drive them frenzy.

Prafulla Kar is a Singer, Music Director, Lyricist, Columnist and Writer. He is the proud father of three children – Mahaprasad Kar, Sandhyadipa Kar and Mahadeep Kar. His wife’s name is Manorama Kar.

A recipient of many awards, Prafulla Kar had last received the Jayadev Award in 2004. Although he got ‘Padma Shri’ very late, he has no regrets about it. “I have been rendering service to my fans and many others through my talent and knowledge. I never expected any awards. However, I am happy to receive this recognition now”, he said.
