Odisha-Andhra Joint Operation: Maoists Death toll reaches 27

maoist-encounter-in-malkangiriThe Maoist death toll has risen to 27 today as the police recovered three more bodies. The encounter took place during the joint combing operation by Odisha and Andhra police forces in Bejing forest under Panasput grampanchyat of Malkangiri district in Odisha.

Four dreaded Maoists Gajarala Ravi alias Uday, East Division Secretary Chalapathi alias Appa Rao, Chalapathi’s wife Aruna and Top Maoist leader Ramakrishna’s son have been killed in the operation.

Huge cache of arms & ammunition including 3 AK-47s, 3 SLRs, 1 Insas, 11 303, 5 GPS, lots of explosive and Rs 2,16,000 cash were also recovered from the encounter site.

The bodies were brought to Chitrakonda for identification and postmortem. The police said the bodies of 24 Maoists would be shifted to Visakhapatnam and would be handed over to their families.

The Greyhounds Commando Abu Bakar was martyred during the encounter with Maoists at Odisha-Andhra border.
