RTI Activist’s Murder in Odisha sparks off Outrage

imageThe brutal murder of RTI Activist Krupasindhu Sahu in Niali block of Cuttack district, has sparked a massive outrage across Odisha. The Odisha Congress has decided to gherao the Assembly on February 18 if the killers are not arrested by then.

The Congress has alleged the involvement of a BJD MLA in the murder, which was denied by the BJD, which accused it of politicising a murder. OPCC President Prasad Harichandan had gone aggressive on this issue, seeking the arrest of all accused, including the government employees, supari killers and police officials in this case.

The IIC of Niali Police Station has already been barred from entering he police station, while the SDPO is directly monitoring the case. Krupasindhu Sahu, who hailed from Nacchigam village of Krushnaprasad Panchayat under Niali police station, was murdered for trying to expose large scale corruption in the implantation of BGREI (Bringing Green Revolution to Eastern India) scheme in the area.

He had sought information from the District Agriculture Officer (DEO), but went missing after that. His dead body was found on January 31. He had gone missing on January 26. A few people have been held in connection with this case.
