Veteran Odisha Actor-Director Gobind Tej passes away

Govind TejVeteran Odisha actor and director passed away on Thursday morning while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was 88.

Tej started his acting career with the movie ‘Kedar Gouri’ and made many other films like ‘Mana Akasha’, ‘Gouri’, ‘Krushna Sudama’, ‘Dharitri’, ‘Bandhan’, ‘Bandhu Mohanty’, and ‘Schoolmaster’.

He received the Odisha State Film Award for Best Director for movies like ‘Kaberi’, ‘School Master’, ‘Tunda Baida’ and ‘Gare Sindura Dhare Luha’. In  1977, he received Best Actor Award for his remarkable acting in the movie ‘Bandhu Mohanty’.

In 1986, Tej was conferred the ‘Jaydev Award’, the highest cine award in the state, for his lifelong contribution to the growth and development of Odia cinema. He had also contributed in many Odia feature films either as an actor,  director or producer.

Former Speaker of Odisha Assembly Sarat Kar, Culture Minister Ashok Panda and many other eminent personalities offered their last tributes to the departed soul.
