Former Lok Sabha Speaker Rabi Ray passes away at 91

Former Lok Sabha speaker Rabi RayFormer Lok Sabha Speaker and a Gandhian leader Rabi Ray passed away today at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack following prolonged illness. He was 91.

Born on 26 November 1926 at Bhanaragarh village in the Puri district of Odisha, Rabi Ray was elected to the 9th Lok Sabha from the Kendrapara constituency in Odisha as a Janata Dal candidate In 1989.

The socialist politician also served as the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare in Former Prime Minister of India Morarji Desai’s Ministry from January 1979 to January 1980.

He was elected President of the Ravenshaw College Students Union in 1948-49 and served as the first President of the Madhusudan Law College Students Union in 1949-50.
