Jail Security beefed up; Abhijit Iyer Mitra to be arrested on Oct 10

ONI Bureau: An Outlook report has claimed quoting an official note written by Additional D.G of Prisons, Odisha to the Director General and Inspector General of Police that extra forces have been sought in connection with the arrest and remand of Abhijit Iyer-Mitra when he visits Odisha on October 10.

Abhijit who was supposed to appear before the House Committee of Odisha Assembly on October 11, will appear at the Konark Police Station on October 10, claims Outlook.

At least 3 section of forces were sought to deal with the situation when Abhijit is arrested and produced in court to get police remand. As there is a huge outrage against Abhjit for his “derogatory remarks” against Konark Temple and the ruling BJD in Odisha has launched an offensive against him, the cops are not taking any chances.

Any physical attack on Abhijit Iyer-Mitra would put the Odisha Government in a tight spot at the national level, which they want to avoid. Even a Senior IAS Officer in Odisha, Nitin Jawale has slammed Abhijit on Twitter and sought him to be dumped to crocodiles in Bhitarkanika.

However, when Abhijit Iyer’s counsel argued in the Supreme Court that his client’s life is in danger and sought anticipatory bail on that ground, CJI Ranjan Gogoi declined it saying safest place for him to be in jail. Although Abhijit has maintained that his statements were just satire, the Supreme Court believed that they incited religious feelings.
