Odisha Govt. proposes 6 Cities for Smart City Project

Modi-Smart-CitiesThe Odisha Government has proposed the names of six cities in the state to be included in PM Narendra Modi’s ambitious Smart City project. The cities selected are Puri, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela, Berhampur and Sambalpur.

Housing & Urban Development Minister Pushpendra Singh Deo confirmed that the above six cities have been recommended for inclusion into the Smart City project. In total, 100 cities across the country, will be selected for Centre’s Smart City project. All state capitals and union territories will come under the scheme by default.

The project will also include 44 cities in the range of 1-4 million population, 9 satellite cities with a population of 4 million or more, 10 cities that are of religious and tourist importance and 20 cities in the range of 0.5 to 1 million population.

The Smart Cuty project will cost Rs 35,000 crore per annum. All 100 smart cities will have high-class infrastructure, adequate water supply, proper sanitation and sewerage, high-speed Wi-Fi connectivity, separate toilets for girls, toilets in all schools, telephone connections for each household and 24/7 power supply apart from many other benefits. Travel time in these cities will come down significantly.
